The Interregnum is the name given by historians to the period between the execution of Charles I in 1649 and the return of Charles II in 1660. In this May 2021 edition of the outstanding BBC radio programme, In Our Time<\/a>, Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the unstable rule in England during this period and the impact in Scotland and, infamously, Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It provides an excellent account of the context of the King’s escape. Specific mention is made soon after 20.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
